Well, folks, summer is coming to an end. The warm weather is winding down. School is back in session. Department stores are gearing up for Halloween...or Christmas (because it’s never too early to get started on your shopping list). Your favorite primetime drama will soon be gracing your television screen. You can’t help but wonder, “Where did the time go?”
Before you put away the pool floats and bust out the flannels/hoodies, let’s focus on one of the positives. This time of the year marks the beginning of the nation’s largest outdoor event – the Farm Progress Show.
It’s a tradition for some farming families. Imagine learning about the latest agricultural equipment and technology with your father or grandfather. They’ve shared their passion and work ethic with you. And when it’s time, you’ll pass the torch onto the next generation. Talk about great memories!
Is this event a ritual in your family? If not, it’s never too late to attend. Below, we discuss why you and your family should attend the 2019 Farm Progress Show.
As mentioned above, the Farm Progress Show is known as “the nation’s largest outdoor event.” How did it manage to earn this nickname? Let’s find out…
Over 600 exhibitors from all over the world attend this industry-leading event. They showcase their new machinery (e.g., combines and tractors); seed and crop protection products; and additional farm-related supplies and services.
Additionally, the on-site demonstrations are a show staple. Field demos include side-by-side tillage techniques, GPS, and equipment performance comparisons.
Do you own livestock? Cattle-handling demonstrations include the newest cattle chutes, animal health products, and work techniques.
Of course, the live demonstrations are weather permitting — hopefully, no inclement weather rains on our parade (no pun intended).
Also, the show features restored antique machinery and entertainment.
Fun Fact: The Farm Progress Show rotates between two permanent sites. Even-numbered years are held in Boone, Iowa. Meanwhile, odd-numbered years are located in Decatur, Illinois.
Overall, this three-day event provides an unparalleled learning opportunity for producers. They can stay up-to-date on the newest machinery, products, services, and technologies. A wide variety of marketing, management, and production seminars are made available to attendees.
