Whether you want to find a restaurant near you or a local handyman, we all turn to Google for answers. Pole barn columns, also known as posts, are the backbone of your post-frame building. They bear the weight of the entire roof system (including purlins and trusses) and ensure all structural loads (such as snow and wind) are transferred to the foundation. In other words, posts play a significant role in your pole barn’s structural integrity. However, it’s common to encounter rotted wood in older post-frame buildings dating back to the 1980s and 1990s.

Most midwesterners dream of buying acreage and building a custom home with a large shop. Just like you, I looked into building a barndominium in 2020. My husband and I eventually bought a house in town, but we still dream of buying 10 acres of timber and putting up a pole building. Today, our dream has shifted towards a shouse we would use as a hunting cabin, workshop, and storage. Since working at FBi Buildings, I have learned a lot about pole barns and how they often are not a cheaper solution for residential living when compared to a traditional home.
