As a post-frame builder, we know firsthand that the weather is unpredictable. One day, our construction crews are building pole barns in the brutal chill. The next day is sunny, with temperatures in the mid-50s. Eventually, you become accustomed to abnormal weather patterns and don’t give it a second thought.

Often, we have customers who call our office with the same pole barn questions. Frequent inquiries include: What is the average cost per square foot? Who should I use to finance my post frame project? How can I customize my building design (e.g., color combination and wainscoting)? Which structural components are covered by your pole barn warranty? Or, “I don’t live in your primary service area, but can you still build my structure?” The list goes on and on. We applaud our customers for asking these questions. In fact, we want them to ask us questions.

Did you know that heating and cooling are the largest energy drains in post frame buildings with climate controlled spaces? If you think about it...it does make sense. Heat rises to the top of any building, and if your building isn’t well insulated what happens to the heat? It will escape through the top of your building, or around any windows and doors that aren’t properly sealed. If you’re losing heat (or even air) around your windows and doors then you’re also wasting money on energy costs. Let’s think about how that concept works. Have you ever noticed that it takes forever for your furnace or even your air conditioner to stop running? That’s because it’s trying to keep up with heating or cooling your post frame building or even home. If there are leaks around windows, doors, or even in your attic then you’re wasting energy.

Which isn’t a bad idea...it’s never good to rush something. I’m sure you’ve started doing (or have even completed) your research. Maybe you’re looking for a post frame company with years of experience, or maybe you want to find a company who’s part of the midwest.
