Do you have more “toys” than you do storage space? I’m not talking about children’s toys either. I’m talking about your hobby toys. Like that bass boat that you fish on every summer, or the newest Polaris Ranger that you and your kids drive around every fall. Maybe it’s in your plans to purchase a snowmobile, but there’s just one problem. You’re running out of adequate storage space. It’s bound to happen...maybe you just didn’t think it would happen as soon as it did.

Storage. Like it or not, it's something that we all need. If you’re like some, it’s something that we just have to have. Why? Because we are running out of space...and we have too much stuff. We never thought we would accumulate so much “junk” over the years but we have. Our house is full. Our closets are full. Our basements are full. Our attics are full. And guess what? We keep getting more stuff to add to the mix. And guess what? If you have kids or plan on having kids it doesn’t get any better. Kids want and require a lot of stuff. Granted, some of these items can stay in the house but what about the things you see yourself using frequently?

It’s a nice, sunny day and you find yourself driving down a country road. What do you see? Fields of corn. Pastures with cows. Post-frame sheds. A stick-built home is currently being constructed. Another stick-built home...or so you think. This building has multiple windows and a country red front door with a ‘Welcome’ sign hanging on the front. It’s nicely landscaped and the grass is freshly mowed. Could this be a pole barn home? The answer is yes.

While it’s important to determine if a post-frame home is right for you, it’s just as important to figure out if you’re a right fit for a post-frame structure. You’re probably wondering why that’s even important because a pole barn has to be cheaper than stick-built, right? Well, not necessarily, and here’s why. It takes a certain type of homeowner to get the biggest bang for their buck with barndominium construction. But before we discuss who that ideal customer is, let’s cover the basics of post-frame construction and why people assume they’re a cost-effective solution for a brand-new home.
