How Much Does It Cost to Build a Pole Barn in Ohio?

Written by Nettie Grubb | Aug 28, 2023 5:00:00 PM

Did you know the Buckeye State is home to aviation? There’s a good chance you might be considering building a pole barn with room to store your airplane.

Perhaps you want to build a pole-building man cave with a room to watch NFL games.

Or, like many Americans interested in building a barndominium, you are curious what the average cost to build a pole barn home would be.

This article will outline the starting cost of pole barns in August 2023 and explain the hidden costs competitors don't discuss.

Top Three Factors for Pole Barn Costs

1) Location

Like home construction, the cost of building a pole barn home in Ohio differs from other parts of the country. Four factors can affect your overall project cost.

  1. Once you secure the land you want to build a post-frame building, you will need to prepare the site for construction.
  2. Building permits vary from county to county. For most projects, you can expect the average price for permits to be $200-600.
  3. Every state has different wind load, snow load, and soil bearing requirements that most engineers should factor into your pole barn. For Ohio, FBi engineers pole barns with a ground snow load rating of 30 PSF.
  4. There will also be a delivery fee to haul the materials. The price will vary depending on the distance from where the materials are being picked up to the site location.

2) Pole Barn Size

If you are starting to design your pole building, you may wonder what size pole barn or post-frame home you should build and how much each size is.

Luckily, we have a building special on our top five most popular sizes until October 2nd, 2023. Please note that our special pricing does not include site prep, additional features, builders' risk, trash removal, or on-site restroom and is based 125 miles from Remington, IN.

The numbers below are just a starting point. Just like buying a car, the prices for a basic building do not include extra features.

Additional features you may consider adding to your project include:

3) Quality Craftsmanship

There are several pole barn builders in Ohio. You may be getting quotes from the Amish, Morton Buildings, Timberline Buildings, Howell Buildings, or Lester Buildings.

Unlike traditional home buildings, FBi Buildings will help you navigate and build the shell of the building. You can hire out or be the general contractor for finishing the inside of your machine shed or pole barn house in Ohio.

It can be easy to line up the quotes and go with what fits your budget. Consider a DIY pole barn kit to save on labor costs.

But keep in mind that cheaper often means lower-quality materials. In the future, you may experience metal fading, rust from screws, and possible structural issues.

Some competitors may look more affordable, but their materials may be the reason. FBi Buildings’ standard materials are high quality.

With over 65 years of post-frame construction experience, we know you want a building built with quality materials and keeps the structural integrity of the building in mind. Below we outline what is standard on all FBi Buildings.
